Laundry
and Bourbon
by James McLure
|
James
McLures classic play Laundry and Bourbon is yet another
one-act set in a small town in Texas. Set in the early 1970's,
three 30-ish Texas women fold laundry, drink plenty of Bourbon,
gossip, reminisce, banter, exchange insults, (two of them end
up in a mini-brawl), and generally reveal much about the open
secrets of small town life.
Theres
plenty to laugh about, and much to ponder in this short work.
The New York Post said this about the original production: "Mr.
McLures strongest suit is dialogue salty, comic
banter that derives from colorful indigenous characters."

Blind
Date
by Horton Foote
| Set
in a small Texas town in 1929, Horton Footes one-act play
Blind Date explores what can happen when adults get mixed
up in trying to play the matching game with the younger
generation. New York Magazine had this to say about the plays
premier production at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York
City: "Foote writes with intelligence, sensitivity, humor,
and compassion. . . Blind Date, understatedly funny and uninsistently
touching, is full of lived humanity." |
